El Charro: Skinny Margs and Vegetarian Flautas

A few weeks ago I went by El Charro to try out their new Vegetarian Flautas and wow. These things look heavenly but let me tell you, they tasted even better than they looked.

When I go out with friends for margs and tacos, I always feel like the only non-meat meal option is a cheese quesadilla. That's why I was so excited that El Charro decided to add some more vegetarian to their menu! These Flautas are filled with mashed potatoes and topped with lettuce, pico de gallo, sour cream, and queso fresco.

And I know your immediate reaction. Probably something along the lines of: Mashed potatoes.. What?? But inside these fried tortillas and with all of the add-ons outside, these mashed potatoes fit right in. They really helped to provide the substance that it needs for a filling meal without meat. Using mashed potatoes also keeps the flavor profile calm enough that those with picky tastebuds or picky stomachs (like me) can eat it without getting sick. Picking these up alone, it tastes similar to chips and queso but in a filling dish. Use the Flautas to scoop up some of the lettuce and pico, and its a full on nacho experience without all of the guilt and stomach aches after that comes with the usual beef and beans topping.

It was also served with three salsas if you're interested in adding even more flavor. Pictured below from front to back is their red salsa, their green crema salsa, and their dark green tomatillo salsa. These were great for dipping the Flautas when I wanted to add just a little bit more to the nacho flavors.

In addition to the Flautas, I also tried some pretty great add-ons while I was there. I loved that the salsa was self-pour, and unlimited chips ALWAYS get me. I tried the Guacamole and I was obsessed with the cute dish it came out in. It was so creamy and the perfect contrast dip to the salsa. And of course, I had to get a margarita while I was there. The picture below is the skinny margarita and let me tell you, I could not tell at all. It tasted just as great as any normal marg I get, which is always the goal when getting skinnies. It was the perfect addition to the meal, even it if was big enough that I didn't actually finish it lol!

I honestly loved this meal and I've already been petitioning friends to make a trip back to have more Flautas. In addition to a great meal, El Charro provides really awesome service. It's the perfect lunch break trip because you easily have the ability to get in, eat, and get out in a reasonable amount of time. They're even offering a free cheese dip if you sign up for their mailing list through their social media, so there's another reason to swing by ASAP (not that you need another). Check that out to start your meal off right, and I'll see y'all there!😉
