Top Spots To Visit On A Trip To Southern Indiana

While I visit Louisville periodically, I have NEVER thought to cross over the Ohio River to check out what was going on in Southern Indiana. A couple weekends ago, they invited me out to visit the area and I can’t believe what I’ve been missing out on. I spent 2 total of about 2 days split between New Albany and Jeffersonville, Indiana. Tons of walkable and outdoor areas, lots of great food, and tons of fun fall events. I honestly just wish I had more time to explore everything.

Lockbox: Redesigned

Lockbox is currently undergoing a redesign of their entire concept and honestly, I’m obsessed. Don’t worry, they’re not changing their entire restaurant up. They’re taking the classic restaurant they already had and are now putting a new bistro-style twist on it.

The Campbell House (And The Newest Rackhouse Tavern): A Lexington Tradition

If you're looking for somewhere to visit, stay, or eat at in Lexington, look no further! The Lexington Campbell House is a property right in the heart of Lexington, located on South Broadway. It's close to campus, downtown, Rupp Arena, and a good local for traveling to venues farther out such as Keeneland. If you live here, you've probably driven past it multiple times, wondering what the gorgeous white buildings were for (I know I have). This property, which used to be a horse farm, has had multi-million dollar renovations, turning it into a beautiful hotel with one of the best restaurants I've ever eaten at.

The Lexington Warehouse Block: A Whole Day of Fun in One Place

Hidden out of direct sight, the Warehouse Block is Walton, National, and North Ashland Avenues, on the east side of Lexington. Right off of Winchester Road, and a 7 minute drive from U.K.'s campus, the area is super easy to get to. There's street parking and parking lots everywhere, making it just as easy to visit as well. There's no reason to not check this place out! With over 30 small businesses in this small community, there's food, beer, fitness, and shopping for absolutely everyone.

Spark Community Cafe: Food With Dignity

Spark is an incredibly adorable community cafe in downtown Versailles, KY and quickly becoming one of my new favorite places to eat. What is a community cafe, you ask? These are local eateries, usually working for the goal of One World Everybody Eats. These are nonprofit cafes where everyone can come in and eat, then decide what to pay when they're done. This allows those who can't afford to eat to be able to live and eat with dignity.

El Charro: Skinny Margs and Vegetarian Flautas

When I go out with friends for margs and tacos, I always feel like the only non-meat meal option is a cheese quesadilla. That's why I was so excited that El Charro decided to add some more vegetarian to their menu! These Flautas are filled with mashed potatoes and topped with lettuce, pico de gallo, sour cream, and queso fresco.

Why Corto Lima Is an All-Inclusive Eater Paradise

After a quick look over their full menu, I found my absolute favorite thing about Corto Lima: they have the most inclusive menu I've seen in a LONG time. On a Lunch/Dinner Menu of 30 items, without ANY changes, 12 items are Vegetarian, 6 items are Vegan, and 18 items are Gluten Free. That's not only CRAZY but crazy awesome! This means that eaters of all-types can go here and not have to worry about asking the staff to change any items or be extra careful to fit there dietary habits.
